"Group Therapy has seven members (Suzanne Cotsakos, Chelsey Crisp, Katie Elsaesser, Lauren Howard, Dione Kuraoka, Debbie Lockhart and Jen McGlone). What proceeds is a trip down a road rarely taken, a journey where instincts are trusted as much, if not more, than reason, an excursion to a land where time matters not, but timing does, where interaction is more important than ego and perseverance is the difference between failure and success. There is a reason many actors stay away from improv, and games like the first one of the evening where each actress embodies an emotional disorder ranging from bi polar to amnesia to the last where the actresses play out a totally improvised scene show why. Also on display are games such as freeze tag and speed dating as well as an outlandish take on Little Red Riding Hood, with Storiale all the while throwing out suggestions and moving actresses about. The genius shows itself in the last three sketches. “Robbery in a Free Clinic” gives the members four time frames from a minute to five seconds to play-out the theme. The imaginatively-titled “A Day in the Life of an Abortionist Hippo” deals with the controversial issue of abortion in a hilarious and intriguing way. The final piece of the show’s puzzle sees McGlone, as a police detective, interviewing the rest of the troupe about a crime. The goal is to find the perpetrator and the difficult, intricate and challenging climb up improvisation’s ladder is inspiring if not thought provoking.Though there is not one weak link in the ensemble’s chain, Debbie Lockhart and Dione Kuraoka continuously stand out with energy, presence and an uncanny ability to think and perform on the spot. Storiale should be given credit for bringing cutting-edge theatre to N0H0, and for trusting his instincts."
